During the first quarter of 2012, water purification systems were installed in five school locations benefiting over 3,000 children.

Friends of Honduras USA is working with San Antonio mayor, Amner Medosa to install a filter and treatment system that will provide drinking water for the people of San Antonio. Construction has begun on a 12,000 gallon water tank that will have enough reserve to provide water 24 hours a day. From this, tubes will be run to different parts of town and have six locations for families to fill their bottles with clean drinking water. Additional tubes would run drinking water to the school in town, which serves 1100 students. The cost of constructing the tanks and installing pumps, filters, and distribution lines around town is estimated to cost $10,000.

During the first quarter of 2012, five water purification systems were installed in these school locations benefiting the following number of students:

  • 18 de Noviembre School in San Antonio, Cortes benefiting 1,000 students
  • Juan Lindo School in the village of Neuva Granada (San Antonio, Cortes) benefiting 250 students
  • Republica de Guatemala School in the village of San Luis (San Antonio, Cortes) benefiting 350 students
  • La Unidad School in the village of La Providencia (San Antonio, Cortes) benefiting 250 students
  • Soberania Technical Institute in San Antonio, Cortes benefiting 1200 students.
