Seeking a path out of crime and poverty for the youngest and most vulnerable of the Honduran population.

Friends of Honduras USA has acquired this 15,000 square-foot abandoned sewing factory for renovation toward the goals of our next major project. Though the building was abandoned ten years ago and has suffered from vandalism and exposure to the weather, the outer walls and floor are in good condition. In January 2019, we hope to complete the construction of the roof and interior walls and installation of the bathrooms and kitchen areas. Our intention is to provide services for improved health and wellbeing of residents of all ages within the community of Conception in the following ways:

  • Housing for 50 otherwise homeless senior citizens who will be able to live here the rest of their lives, receiving medical service and three meals a day.
  • A therapy center for handicapped individuals in the community. In Conception alone, there are over 80 people with handicapped conditions.
  • A birthing center where mothers in this remote mountain area will be able to receive medical attention in a clean safe environment while giving birth. Currently, the majority of births occur at home; many homes have dirt floors and little protection from the elements. Our hope is to reduce the high rates of maternal and infant mortality by providing this essential resource.
  • A medical clinic to serve the basic medical needs of this community of 15,000 people.

The anticipated cost of renovation and installation of this facility is $50,000.
